Partner organisations: Pakistan Cultural Society, Hindu Temple, Sikh Gurdwara and Bangladeshi Community Centre; BME Safeguarding Organisation; BME Education Support Group

AMAN’s resilience approach envisages to enlighten the communities about the nature of threat radicalisation and extremism poses to our younger generation and design project interventions through community participation. AMAN started in March 2015 with a pilot study capturing the views of 50 Muslim respondents about root causes of terrorism, its effects on communities and strategic solutions to counter it. We aim to further our understanding of communities’ perceptions by conducting extensive research during through a series of Focus Group Discussions [FDGs] to be hosted by various partner organisations such as Pakistan Cultural Society, Hindu Temple, Sikh Gurdwara and Bangladeshi Community Centre at various wards of Newcastle upon Tyne. These FDGs would capture community’s perceptions about the factors leading to radicalisation and extremism and collate various recommendations to eliminate the root causes.

It is expected that interactive participatory approach adopted for this research and project activities would result in building community resilience as well as create greater ownership of project.
