While Jihadist groups claim that their violent actions are supported with traditional schools of Islamic jurisprudence, the facts remains that traditional interpretations of Islamic sources does not lend any support to such claims. While such discourses serve to challenge the ideological base of extremist narrative, presenting these counter-narrative to children in the form of special lessons for each key stage as well as wider communities through community seminars and workshops would raise awareness about the true nature of Islam and prevent the spread of islamophobia in the multi-faith, multi-cultural city of Newcastle upon Tyne which in turn would build individuals and community’s resilience to resist and reject radicalisation and extremism.
